Unity in the Community announces the adoption of guidelines for its Humanitarian Fund.  The Humanitarian Fund was established to address humanitarian needs following the Sept. 10, 2006 murder of Serafin Alvarez Negrete, an immigrant in our community.  Unity in the Community initiated the fund to provide funding for the repatriation of Sr. Negrete's body. Following that tragic event we realized that a continuing need exists to reach out to individuals in our community experiencing extreme circumstances.  In November 2006 the membership agreed to maintain a fund for humanitarian purposes apart from our general operating budget and adopted the following guidelines for the administration of the Serafin Alvarz Negrete Humanitarian Fund in February 2007.
